Mzima Networks Deploys Turin Traverse® Platform to Deliver Carrier Ethernet Services with Greater Flexibility and Reliability
Traverse Systems Deployed at Backbone Locations in U.S. and Europe
Petaluma, CA, December 4, 2006 – Turin Networks Inc., a global provider of multiservice IP and metro optical transport products for wireline, wireless, MSO and private networks, today announced that Mzima Networks has chosen the Turin Traverse® Multiservice Transport Switch to bring high security and industry-leading reliability to its Ethernet service networks in the United States and Europe.
Mzima is a premier provider of connectivity and transport services for the world’s most demanding customers, including financial institutions, major Internet retailers, IPTV providers, interactive gaming companies, and regional carriers. The carrier chose the Turin solution to upgrade its international network to 10Gbps and to deliver Ethernet private line and virtual private line services. In addition to a fourfold increase in capacity, the Traverse platform is also improving network availability and security by bringing the benefits of SONET transport to Mzima’s network.
“Our customers demand the highest security and reliability, and they can’t afford a network outage,” said Grant Kirkwood, CTO of Mzima Networks. “The Traverse platform proved to be the best solution for allowing us to migrate to 10Gbps while enhancing our Ethernet service network with the inherent reliability, security and other advantages of next-generation SONET transport.”
In addition to enabling high-availability transport services to be provided over the company’s network, the Traverse platform is making it possible for Mzima to enhance its Ethernet access services portfolio. While Mzima had simply performed optical media conversions to deliver Ethernet in the past, the Turin switches now enable it to perform advanced service functions (such as VLAN switching and Layer 2 traffic management) to support more robust end-to-end SLAs.
“Mzima has grown quickly because of its commitment to offer the highest level of services to the most demanding customers,” said Chris Stark, president of worldwide sales and marketing at Turin Networks. “We are pleased that our Traverse platform has given them the tools they need to further improve their value proposition to these important customers.”
